Composer Residencies

Since the Fall of 2003, Wynn-Anne has been a composer-in-residence with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra CONNECT Program. Each year, she works with different groups of students for 10-week intervals, teaching them to compose. In the course of their time together, the students create their own compositions. Wynn-Anne then extracts a musical idea from each of these student pieces and composes a “masterwork” for orchestra or concert band. This work can range from one to three movements. At the end of the residency, it is performed in a final concert. Most final concerts are casual, in a school setting. However, it is a special treat when the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra includes the final work on stage in its educational concerts! (See Clavier magazine, April 2007).

Wynn-Anne has also done composition residencies supported by the Shubert Center, the Hennepin Center for the Arts, the Ordway Center and the American Composers Forum. The Shubert Center and the SPCO have joined hands in creating interactive video residencies with students across the state. Wynn-Anne took part in the first of its kind with high school students in Albert Lea, MN in Spring, 2007. (See Albert Lea Tribune: Febrary 8, 2007).
