Biography

Wynn-Anne Rossi is a nationally acclaimed composer whose works have reached audiences throughout the United States, Europe, Iceland and Australia. Commissions include works sponsored by MN Public Radio, the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Composers Forum and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. She has over 60 publications, primarily for piano, which are widely distributed throughout the country. Her repertoire includes compositions for vocal and chamber groups, percussion ensembles, concert band and orchestra. She composed a liturgical setting along with five sacred works as part of the Faith Partnership Grant in 2003-04.

Wynn-Anne is currently composer-in-residence for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra CONNECT program, teaching students in the Twin Cities the art of composition. With students’ musical ideas, she creates band and orchestral works which are premiered by area musicians. The first residency resulted in a premiere by the SPCO for six educational concerts in January, 2004. She has done various composition residencies sponsored by the Shubert Center, Hennepin Center for the Arts, American Composers Forum and the Ordway Center.

Rossi has lectured on the importance of musical self-expression for all ages in several states, presenting for organizations such as the Music Teachers National Association. She has also given composition workshops in Iceland. She is the co-author of a five book series with Kevin Olson for young composers called “Music by Me”. She also performs in the schools, sponsored by Bravo and CONNECT, taking students on musical imagination tours using her own compositions.

Wynn-Anne was educated at the University of Colorado in theory and composition. Further training included choral conducting at Harvard University and jazz pedagogy through the University of Illinois. She has also studied under Pulitzer prize recipient Aaron Jay Kernis.
